According to the Goldman Sachs FICC and Equities Futures Strats Group, the rebalancing of systematic macro investors is already complete. Currently, CTA funds are in short positions, and the exposure of so-called “Volatility control” funds is at its lowest levels in a year.
This means that the market sentiment is in a neutral phase—with potential for slight buying, but larger purchases will only be triggered by a clearer rise. The first “technically positive” zone for the S&P 500 is around 5,480 points.
For traders, this signals: so far, there are no aggressive flows driving the market sharply upwards, but a breakthrough above key levels may trigger acceleration. It’s a good time to watch for strong momentum or a trend reversal.
